About GET NKD

You weren't born knowing what was normal.

You learned it. From family. Culture. Religion. School. Friends. Media. Relationships. Strangers. Expectations. Rules nobody remembers agreeing to.

GET NKD exists to make those inherited ideas visible enough to question.

What is GET NKD?

We're born without much of a rulebook.

Then the world starts handing us one.

We learn what bodies are supposed to look like. What relationships are supposed to look like. What kinds of sex are acceptable. What kinds of desire should stay hidden. What makes someone respectable, attractive, successful, appropriate, masculine, feminine, normal, strange, good, or bad.

Some of those ideas may be useful. Some may be harmful. Some may simply belong to another time, another culture, another family, or somebody else's idea of how life should work.

GET NKD is about figuring out which is which.

What do you actually believe once you separate it from what you were taught to believe?

Why Question It?

Questioning something doesn't mean rejecting it.

It means refusing to confuse inheritance with truth.

An idea can survive for generations without anyone stopping to ask where it came from, who benefited from it, whether it still makes sense, or whether anyone actually chose it.

That's where GET NKD begins.

Not with the assumption that everything we've inherited is wrong, but with the belief that anything powerful enough to shape how we see ourselves and other people is worth examining.

What We Explore

The rules hiding in plain sight.

Bodies & Nudity
Sex & Desire
Relationships & Intimacy
Identity & Belonging
Privacy & Visibility
Power & Boundaries
Conformity & Expectations
Prejudice & Othering
What GET NKD Isn't

This isn't a new rulebook.

GET NKD isn't here to tell you that everything traditional is bad, everything unconventional is good, or that questioning something requires rejecting it.

It isn't about replacing one definition of normal with another.

And despite the name, GET NKD isn't simply about nudity. Nakedness is the metaphor. Strip away the assumptions, expectations, labels, and inherited answers long enough to see what's actually underneath.

Behind GET NKD
James Di Janni

James Di Janni

GET NKD was created by James Di Janni as a place to explore questions that tend to get flattened into easy answers, uncomfortable silences, or rules people are expected to accept without examining.

The project brings together essays, conversations, surveys, and research around bodies, sex, relationships, identity, desire, social conditioning, and the many ways inherited expectations shape how people understand themselves and one another.

The point isn't to have all the answers. It's to get better at asking the questions.

GET NKD isn't asking you to reject what you were taught. It's asking whether you've ever chosen to believe it.
